For women: before you start

What to keep in mind while your skin adjusts.

Pregnancy

It is not used if you are pregnant, planning a pregnancy or breastfeeding. If you become pregnant while using it, contact your provider.

Hair removal and other products

Keep hair removal creams, waxing and other medicated products such as benzoyl peroxide off treated skin unless your provider says otherwise.

Makeup and sun

Use only non-medicated makeup on treated skin, wear sunscreen daily, and avoid sun lamps and tanning.

The first weeks

If you are using it for acne, it can look worse in the first 7 to 10 days. That is expected, and worth a photo.

The detail, if you want it

Nothing here is required reading.

A refill is $100 and lasts about 3 months, so twelve months here is $400, which covers your medication, your provider, follow-ups and shipping. Lab tests your provider orders aren’t included in your price. They’re billed by the lab you choose, not by Panterra.

The largest providers in this category publish a $39 introductory month renewing at $149 a month. That fee buys no medication: it is billed separately and, in at least one case, is not available without an active membership. On the same medication cost, twelve months there is $2,078.

The gap is fees, not medicine.

$39 plus $149 times 11 is $1,678 in fees over year one. Medication is priced identically on both sides of this comparison, so the only variable is what you are charged for being a patient.

Competitor figures were accurate to published rates at time of writing and change frequently. Verify before relying on them.

No. That is the rule the business is built on, so we can publish the entire schedule up front. Your starting price is confirmed by your provider before anything ships, and it does not move as your dose does.

Weeks 1 to 2 · lowest strength$100
Weeks 3 to 6 · nightly$100
Weeks 7 to 12 · review$100
Month 4 and on · maintenance$100

Your provider sets the starting point and every change based on how you respond. Some people never move past the first step, and that is a normal outcome.

Worth asking anywhere you shop: what is the price at the highest dose I might reach? Competitors commonly publish medication prices that step up, separately from the monthly fee.

FDA has approved tretinoin creams to treat acne. The tretinoin dispensed through Panterra is an FDA-approved generic tretinoin cream, filled by a state-licensed pharmacy. Your provider prescribes it based on their clinical judgement and your intake, and can change or stop it at any time.

Not usually for tretinoin. Your provider decides whether you need labs first.

If your answers suggest something else is going on, thyroid, iron or blood sugar, your provider may want a panel before prescribing. Where a panel is clinically needed, your provider orders it. Lab tests your provider orders aren’t included in your price. They’re billed by the lab you choose, not by Panterra.

Sometimes a panel means no prescription at all. A thyroid result can be the whole answer, and that ends in a referral rather than a sale.

Likely a fit
  • Over-the-counter products stopped doing anything a while ago.
  • You can commit to twelve weeks before judging the result.
  • You want the cheapest honest entry point into prescription care.
Not a fit
  • You are pregnant, planning to be, or breastfeeding.
  • You need a result before an event next month.
  • You will not use sunscreen. This makes that non-negotiable.

A provider makes the final call. Results vary and are not guaranteed.

Who prescribes this

A provider licensed in your state reads your intake before anything ships, and their name appears on the plan you receive.

Why this one

The options here are long established in dermatology. Which one fits depends on what your provider sees in your intake, not on what is easiest to ship.

If it is not right for you

They say so plainly, and your provider sets any follow-up rather than leaving you alone.

Important safety information

For Tretinoin. A summary, not the complete list of risks. If you add another treatment to your plan, its own page carries its safety information.

This is not for everyone

Only a licensed provider can decide whether this treatment is appropriate for you. Do not use it if you are pregnant, planning to become pregnant or breastfeeding, if you have eczema or sunburn on the area to be treated, or if you have reacted to a retinoid before. Tell your provider about other skin products you use, especially anything drying or exfoliating.

Serious risks

This is a topical retinoid. It makes skin much more sensitive to sunlight: use sunscreen daily and avoid sun lamps and tanning. Severe redness, blistering, crusting or swelling means stop and contact your provider. Avoid waxing and harsh scrubs on treated skin. Keep it away from the eyes, mouth and nostrils.

Common side effects

Redness, peeling, dryness, stinging or warmth, and a temporary flare in the first weeks that usually settles by week eight to twelve.

Combining treatments

Adding treatments at the same time makes it harder to tell which one is working and which one is causing a side effect. A provider will usually ask you to stage them, starting one and adding the next at a follow-up. If you add another treatment to your plan, its own safety information applies as well.
